A stretch of Round Lake Road in Milan is expected to close later this month as Dutchess County begins a culvert replacement project intended to improve drainage and roadway safety.
The Dutchess County Department of Public Works said construction will begin on or about Monday, July 13, on Round Lake Road, also known as County Route 52. The closure will be in the area of the project site, about one-third of a mile west of the intersection with Milan Hollow Road, or County Route 15.
Access to nearby driveways will be maintained during construction, according to the county. A posted detour will direct drivers along state Routes 308 and 199, and Milan Hollow Road.
County officials said the detour is approximately six miles long and is expected to add about 10 minutes to travel times, depending on traffic.
The project will replace an aging corrugated metal pipe culvert that county officials said has rusted and reached the end of its service life.
In addition to removing and replacing the culvert, the project will include the installation of new inlet and outlet headwalls, the widening of the road to add 3-foot shoulders and the installation of new guardrail. County officials said the improvements are intended to increase safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
The total project cost is just over $630,000.
Weather permitting, and barring any unexpected issues, the county expects the work to be completed this fall.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, use caution near the construction site and along the detour, follow posted speed limits and traffic advisory signs, and obey directions from flaggers near the work zone.
