The Milan Town Board voted to establish a dedicated highway bridge and culvert fund and transfer $400,000 from unappropriated general funds, a move aimed at advancing long-planned culvert replacements on Battenfeld Road and Torre Rock Road.
The action was approved at the board’s Dec. 15 meeting in support of the “Milan Two Culvert Project,” following a presentation by Nancy Clark of KC Engineering & Land Surveying, the town’s consulting engineer. Clark said the project is expected to require full road closures and detours during construction, which is anticipated to begin in July 2026 and conclude by mid-October. She said the firm will review project bids and provide the town with a recommendation for awarding the contract, with a separate proposal for construction-phase services expected in March.
“We all know we have culverts to replace,” Supervisor Al LoBrutto said during the meeting, his final meeting before retirement. LoBrutto has been the town supervisor for six years and is to be succeeded in 2026 by William Jeffway.
The board also approved purchasing a Western Star truck chassis for $179,000 and a combination dump-spreader body for $116,739.71 to replace a 2007 International truck used by the highway department.
The board plans to hold its annual reorganization meeting at 1 p.m. on Jan. 1 at Milan Town Hall, and it set the town’s 2025 financial audit for Jan. 14, at 10 a.m.
