
Karl T. Chorney III, a lifelong area resident, died on July 14, in Poughkeepsie. He was 84.
Chorney was born on Jan. 18, 1942, in Poughkeepsie, the son of Karl and Rose (Misiewicz) Chorney. He graduated from Pine Plains High School and subsequently attended Dutchess Community College and served for two years in the U.S. Army.
He married Patricia Moore on June 28, 1992. She survives him.
Chorney worked as a service technician for Dictaphone Telephone Systems, traveling throughout the country to service and repair telephone systems.
Chorney was an avid and serious bowler. He was inducted into the Dutchess County Bowling Hall of Fame in 1983, operated a bowling pro shop for 35 years and ran the Red Hook Rhinebeck Rotary bowling tournament for many years.
Besides his wife, Chorney is survived by two sons: Brendon Chorney and Devon (Jessica) Chorney; and three grandchildren, Madison, Siena and Gabe. A brother, Vincent Chorney, died before him.
Visiting hours will be on July 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. A funeral service will be held on July 24 at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
