
Robert C. Schroder of Milan died on Nov. 5. He was 97.
Schroder was born on Oct. 6, 1928, Poughkeepsie, the son of Herman and Katherine (Tobin) Schroder. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1947 and started working for IBM in April 1948.
Schroder served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and returned to IBM after being discharged. He worked there until retiring in 1990. He married Marie Campbell in 1952. They moved to Milan in 1957, where he served as town
clerk from 1957 until 1972. He was a member of the town board from 1972 to 1984. Schroder later worked at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, Battenfeld Tree Farm and the Red Hook Golf Course.
He is survived by two sons, Marc (LeAnn) Schroder and James (Linda) Schroder; two
grandchildren, Kolby Schroder and Nicole Hiles; and many nieces and nephews. A daughter,
Christine Hiles, died in 2024. Two brothers and two sisters also died before him. His wife died in
2010.
Visiting hours will be held on Nov. 9 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Burnett & White Funeral Home,
7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, and a graveside service will be held on Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at
Rock City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in Schroder’s memory to St. Jude’s
Children’s Hospital.
