A Pine Plains Police Department vehicle struck a stopped car from behind on Route 199 on Monday, injuring two town police officers, according to the New York State Police.
Officer Aaron L. Fantroy, who was a passenger in the police vehicle, remained in the hospital Wednesday afternoon, Town Supervisor Brian Walsh said. Officer Brian J. Johnson, who was driving, had been released.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:14 p.m. July 6 near Stissing Mountain Road. State Police said a 2003 Lincoln driven by George H. Hill, 66, of Pine Plains, was stopped on Route 199 while waiting for oncoming traffic to clear before making a left turn.
The Lincoln was struck from behind by a 2017 Ford driven by Johnson, State Police said.

Johnson and Fantroy sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Hill was not injured, State Police said.
The Pine Plains Police Department said in a statement shortly after the crash that one officer was being transported to Albany Medical Center and the other was being released with minor injuries. Hill declined medical treatment at the scene, according to the department.
Walsh told the Herald on Wednesday that the police vehicle sustained damage to its front end and right side, while Hill’s car sustained rear-end damage.

“An internal investigation is ongoing,” Walsh said.
State Police determined that the crash was non-criminal in nature.
The police vehicle was towed from the scene by L & S Towing, according to State Police.

Very sad when the own police department isn’t paying attention out on the road.
