At its meeting on Monday, Aug. 18, the Milan Town Board unanimously approved a quote of $11,500 from Optimus Architecture for the replacement of the Town Hall roof, which Supervisor Al Lo Brutto is leaking. The money will be allocated to next year’s budget, with the construction to take place in 2026.
The board also voted to upgrade its land use software, purchasing a plan from Cloud Permit, which tracks building permits, centralizes code enforcement tracking, and monitors land subdivisions for the town. “With the [old] software, things would just fall through the cracks,” said Lo Brutto. The online plan will cost $4,000 in the first year.
The board approved quotes of $533 from Just For Nets and $4,226.26 from Dutchess Metal Supply Corporation to fence in the pickleball courts at Milan Recreation Park. “I think we’ve got a solution that will encourage people to use the pickleball courts,” said board member Debra Blalock.
Town Clerk Catherine Gill was authorized to advertise for the annual purchase of highway maintenance materials, including blacktop, gravel, and sand for 2026. The board will collect sealed bids until 2 p.m. on Sept. 12, and review them at its next meeting on Sept. 15.
In another Highway Department development, Superintendent Glenn Butler was authorized to hire a full-time employee beginning on Aug. 31. Howard Brooks, who has almost completed his probationary period at the job, will be joining the department. “He’s fitting in very nicely,” said Butler.
In other hiring news, Elizabeth Burns was appointed as Assessor, with the position beginning in October. Jennifer Hoyt resigned from her position as the Assessor’s Aide, saying in a letter to the board, “Under the current circumstances, I don’t believe I’m a good fit for the position.” The board approved the hiring of Jasmin Vazquez to replace Hoyt, beginning in September. “She has a lot of government experience,” said Lo Brutto of Vazquez.
