Two motorcycle crashes in Pine Plains last week left riders injured, including one man who was airlifted to Vassar Brothers Medical Center after striking a tree off Route 82, according to state police and local officials.
On Aug. 15 at about 4:05 p.m., state troopers said a 2020 Harley-Davidson operated by Jeffrey S. Neville, 65, of Hyde Park, was headed south on Route 82 when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle left the roadway, crossed the northbound shoulder, traveled down an embankment and struck a downed tree.
Neville was ejected and found about 30 feet into the woods near 8100 Route 82, dispatch records show. Emergency crews airlifted him by helicopter from a landing zone behind Stissing Mountain High School to Vassar Brothers in Poughkeepsie. A hospital employee said Tuesday that Neville has since been released.
One day earlier, on Aug. 14, Pine Plains police and fire crews responded to an incident on Hicks Hill Road. The motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, suffered multiple injuries that were not considered life-threatening, officials said.
Pine Plains Fire Chief and Town Supervisor Brian Walsh said the rider was treated at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Although another vehicle was involved, Walsh said the incident was not considered a hit-and-run. A car reportedly swerved into the motorcycle’s lane but did not make contact.

Glad to hear that the riders were not killed. But I must say, we all live in the country. It is quiet and that is one of the reasons we live here. The lovely quiet. But why are groups of insanely LOUD “hogs” allowed to destroy all that on Saturday and Sunday? Are there no noise laws in Pine Plains? They do make these new things called mufflers that ALL cars must have installed.
