For a course called Documentary Film Production, Marist College assistant professor Jeffrey Basinger identified six news publications in the Hudson Valley and designated a group of students to create a documentary for each one. The students assigned to the Herald—Rebekah Hendricks, Erin-Leigh Hoffman and Emily Sumner—chose to focus on Lisa and Nelson Zayas, who run Willow Roots, a nonprofit organization in Pine Plains that provides free groceries and clothing. Willow Roots: “Keep Feeding the People” is the culmination of the students’ 15-week effort.
