Willow Roots has found a home for its flea market. According to Lisa Zayas, co-founder of the Pine Plains food and clothing distribution center, reported that the First United Presbyterian Church of Pine Plains has agreed to provide space for its weekly Saturday flea markets beginning in April 2024.
Church member Jeanne Valentine Chase told Zayas that the project was unanimously approved during the Session meeting on Nov. 20. Session member Dyan Wapnick and Pastor Jan Brooks are finalizing the agreement. Wapnick said in an email, “The church is looking forward to being a part of the important work that Willow Roots is doing for the community.”
Zayas hopes to strengthen the Pine Plains community by bringing local shoppers and vendors together. The space provided by the First United Presbyterian Church will facilitate her goal.
She anticipates the space will accommodate 10 indoor vendors and up to 30 vendors outside. Food trucks will park on the street in front of the church, located at 3039 Church St.
Willow Roots launched its first flea market three months ago. Vendors set up tents and tables in an area adjacent to the municipal parking lot on North Main Street. The last market until the spring—Willow Roots Holiday Bazaar–will be held in the Pine Plains Community Center above the library on Saturday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Willow Roots Food Pantry and Thrift Shop has distributed food and clothing to disadvantaged locals since 2019. Their Neighbor Networking program connects community members in need with large donated items, like furniture or refrigerators. Located at 7730 S. Main St., Willow Roots is open the first and third Saturday of every month from 10 to 11 a.m.
