Stewart’s Shops has restored gasoline service at its South Main Street location in Pine Plains following an eight-week suspension for extensive renovations. The business celebrated its grand re-opening on Friday, Nov. 8, unveiling a $2.7 million redesign that includes expanded fuel options and a revamped interior layout.
To mark the opening, Stewart’s offered promotions, including free coffee, ice cream, discounts on gas, and deals on pizza and hot dogs.
“It’s a nicer, bigger, better Stewart’s with a better layout,” said Town Board member Kevin Walsh. “I think it just makes Pine Plains better.”
The project, part of the company’s statewide modernization initiative, added two diesel pumps and expanded regular gas service. Fuel service had been suspended since Sept. 10, forcing drivers to travel to Millerton, Milan, or Stanfordville.
Inside the store, a redesigned layout aims to improve customer flow while continuing to offer staple items like coffee and grab-and-go meals.

The reopening ceremony also included a $1,500 donation to the Pine Plains Community Food Locker, a gesture that underscores the company’s role in supporting the town. Pat Nanetti, who helps manage the pantry, said the contribution represents more than a month’s worth of groceries for the pantry.
Town Supervisor Brian Walsh shared his enthusiasm, noting, “Probably 99% of the town uses Stewart’s. They’re offering more of a variety, more products, they now have diesel fuel. They got the job done extremely quickly, looks gorgeous. Beautiful building, great people, and the town will benefit from it greatly.”
