Shary L. Hertel died on Feb. 22 at her home in Pine Plains. She was 58.
Hertel was born on July 9, 1966, in Sharon, Conn., the daughter of Neil and Diana (Clum) Pilch. She grew up in Pine Plains and in 1984 graduated from Pine Plains Central School. She went on to work for the Amenia post office, the Bank of Amenia and then the Kildonan School in Amenia in the finance office.
She married Joseph Hertel on Oct. 8, 1995. He died in 2019.
Hertel is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Hertel, and stepson, Joseph Hertel Jr., and two grandchildren, Amelia and Elliot Hertel. She is also survived by her mother, Diana Pilch; a brother, Tony Pilch; and a sister, Cathy (Duane) Vincent; a niece, Elizabeth Vincent; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held March 16 at the Pine Plains Community Room, 7775 S. Main Street, Pine Plains, at 1 p.m.
