Horace Buckner, the well known colored man, starts to visit his old home in St. Louis MO. Horace was formerly a slave owned by Governor Buckner, from whom he takes his surname, and in 1861 became a servant of Captain (afterwards Lt. Col.) Benj. Smith of the second Michigan cavalry, and came with him to Pine Plains at the close of the war. Recently the old man has had a strong desire to visit his old home town once more, and some of our citizens contributed money so he will be absent about a month.
