
Ronald “Hacky” Scheer died on May 18 at home, with friends and family at his side. He was 72.
Scheer was born on Aug. 22, 1953, in Rockville Centre, N.Y., the son of Edith and George Scheer, of Milan. He graduated from Pine Plains Central School in 1971, and from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1979 with a bachelor of science degree.
In his working life, he was a residential aide for the Taconic Developmental Disabilities Services Office in Wassaic, a claims examiner for Progressive Auto Insurance, a farm caretaker, and the sole proprietor of Pine Plains Paint and Paper.
He is survived by his children, Andrea (Daniel) Van Steenkiste, of Ray, Mich., and Derek Scheer of Stanfordville, and two grandchildren, Amelia and Joshua Van Steenkiste.
Scheer is also survived by his sister Doreen “Dodie” (Gary) Roome of Hyde Park, two other siblings, his partner Susan Cassinelli of Beacon and by many cousins.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, May 22 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 S. Main St., Pine Plains, New York.
