
Robert L. Harpp Jr. died on March 1 in Great Barrington, Mass. He was 57.
Harpp was born on Feb. 10, 1968, in Sharon, Conn., the son of Robert L. Harpp Sr. and Judy (Shook) Harpp.
Harpp graduated from Pine Plains Central School in 1986, after which he went to Columbia Greene Community College, where he studied criminal justice.
In 1992, he joined the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department, where he became a detective, arson investigator, and hostage negotiator. He later served as Pine Plains Town Court Clerk. Most recently he worked as the director of security for Calyx Berkshire Dispensary in Great Barrington, Mass.
Harpp is survived by his children, Abigail J. Harpp and Nolan Thomas Harpp, as well as by his mother, Judy Harpp, the former Pine Plains Town clerk. He is also survived by a sister, Lenora (Jeff) Carr, and a nephew, Austin Carr. His father and a brother, Thomas J. Harpp, predeceased him.
A celebration of Harpp’s life will be held on March 15 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pine Plains Lions Club Pavilion.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial contributions be made in Harpp’s memory, and that they be made payable to Judy Harpp, PO Box 149, Pine Plains, NY 12567, with the understanding that the funds will be directed to the Pine Plains Recreation Department.
