The Pine Plains girls varsity softball team is headed to the state championships.

The Bombers captured the Class C regional title Thursday, June 4, defeating Tuckahoe 4-1 at Monroe-Woodbury High School in a stellar performance powered by pitcher Talia Durant and key hits from Anna Essery and Abbey Mayes.

Durant was commanding from the circle, striking out 10 batters and holding Tuckahoe to two hits and one run over seven innings. She walked one.

Tuckahoe took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Cayleigh Handel, but Pine Plains settled in and kept the Tigers off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

The Bombers tied the game in the fourth inning, when Anna Essery drove in a run with a single to right field. Pine Plains broke through an inning later, as Abbey Mayes delivered a two-run single to put the Bombers ahead 3-1. Pine Plains added one more run in the sixth.

Mayes led Pine Plains with two runs driven in. Essery and Peyton Burton each drove in one. Mayes, Burton, Emma Alford, Essery, and Addy Farinaccio each recorded a hit for the Bombers.

The victory sends Pine Plains to Binghamton, where the Bombers will compete Friday, June 12, in the state championship tournament.
