The Pine Plains Fire District will hold an election for one of its five fire commissioners on Dec. 12 at the firehouse on Lake Rd. between 6 and 9 p.m. Anyone registered to vote in Pine Plains is eligible to cast a ballot.  James Fabrizio is the only person on the ballot for the position. Fire commissioners serve five-year terms.

The fire district is an independent government entity, similar to a school district. Its commissioners oversee firefighting and emergency medical responses in the town, though the Pine Plains Hose Company and the emergency medical squad are separate entities. The fire district sets its own tax rate, which is separate from other taxes, and its own budget. The commission holds a public meeting the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the firehouse.
