November 15, 1943

Mrs. Beulah Simons was found murdered at her Ancram farm. The act was committed and a confession was made by her young farmhand. The youth states that he struck her in the head with an axe which he was using to chop wood, and that he placed her body in a wheelbarrow and carried it to a spot 1000 ft. distant, hiding it under a 3 ft. pile of straw. His reason for committing the assault was that Mrs. Simons had spoken to him several times during the week and it “got on his nerves.” The boy continued on with his chores and when it came time to feed the chickens he found the henhouse door locked. He went to the body and took the key from the pocket.
