At its meeting on Monday, July 21, the Milan Town Board extended an intermunicipal agreement with Dutchess County, enabling the town to continue its work with Granicus.

Granicus is a service that allows citizens to pay fees, schedule appointments, and report issues online. It also provides address identification and compliance monitoring. The Town of Milan will work with Granicus to identify short-term rentals in the area. When reporting these rentals to the town, the board can make sure that appropriate fees and taxes are being paid. The cost of the address identification and compliance monitoring service is $5,000, which is eligible for reimbursement from Dutchess County.

In other business, the board increased the fee for the construction of improved outdoor lighting at the Town Hall by $2,450. The board hopes that the work can be completed in August.

The board authorized Highway Superintendent Glenn Butler to purchase a $35,000 4520Y Kubota diesel lawnmower from Grassland Equipment and Irrigation Corporation. According to Butler, the mower — capable of operating on 20 degree inclines —  will be particularly effective on the steep slopes around Milan’s landfill caps. “It’s at least a 20-year machine,” said Butler.

Finally, the board authorized Butler to submit an approval for the reduction of the speed limit — from 35 to 25 mph — on Rowe Road between Route 199 and Willow Brook Road. Butler cited the presence of driveways immediately when turning off of Route 199 as a reason for the reduction. The request will first be made to the county, which then forwards it to the state for review.

The next Milan Town Board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Aug. 18.
