Jon Rowe and Claire Harvey returned from a trip to New York about 2:24 AM. In their driveway between the Cock n Bull restaurant and the Stissing National Bank they came upon a burning mattress. They got out of their house and thought they had extinguished it, but it must have been smoldering inside for in the morning it was 7/8ths burned. When discovered, only about a two foot area was burned. Seeking information the next morning, it came to light that a resident of the Piester building had been smoking in bed and he had hauled the burning mattress out and across the street!!!
