Lucille G. Jordan of Poughkeepsie died on June 29. She was 106.
Jordan was born in New York City on Jan. 15, 1919, to Louis Albert Girod and Marie Louise Bayen. She graduated from Congers High School and then New York University in 1940, majoring in French.
Jordan worked for a variety of organizations during the World War II era including New York State at Bear Mountain State Park and the British Government in New York City. She started teaching French at Spring Valley High School, then at Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie, where she met her husband, Frederick “Fritz” Jordan. They married on March 28, 1948, in Pine Plains.
Affectionately called ‘Mother of Arlington Sports,’ Jordan was the official scorekeeper for the football, basketball, and baseball teams and was inducted in 2019 at age 100 into the Arlington High School Sports Wall of Fame.
Jordan is survived by her two daughters, Denise Louise (Matt) Finley and Jeannine Julia Jordan of Poughkeepsie; three grandchildren: Julia F. (Lawrence) Mosca, Jordan A. (Devon) Finley and Susan E. Finley; and two great-grandchildren, Josephine Mosca and Ruby Finley. Jordan is also survived by a sister, Alberta Fullem, and several nieces and their children. Her husband died in 1993.
