Katherine S. Ryan died on May 21 at Northern Dutchess Hospital. She was 89.
She was born Jan. 23, 1936, the daughter of Mary (Kreig) and Lowell Gilnack.
Ryan graduated from Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park. She married John F. Ryan in 1957 and they moved to Pine Plains. She worked for the New York Telephone Co. in Poughkeepsie and then for IBM. She subsequently worked for the Pine Plains Central School District at Seymour Smith Elementary School, first as a teacher’s assistant then as secretary to the principal, from which she retired. She was a member of the Pine Plains Garden Club and belonged to the Gallatin Reformed Church.
Ryan is survived by her husband; two children: Karen (Jerry) Rundall and Keith (Susan Robertson) Ryan; three grandchildren: Morgan Ryan, Mason MacIssac, and Shanee Emanuel; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings Robert Gilnack, Rosemary Douglas and Bruce Gilnack.
Graveside services will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains on May 31 at 11:30 a.m.
The family requested that memorial donations be made to the Pine Plains Fire Company and the Pine Plains Garden Club.
