Katherine D. (Haegler) Sweeney of Tivoli died on March 31. She was 87.

Sweeney was born on Feb. 8, 1938, in New York City, the daughter of Ernie and Katherine (Hoffediener) Haegler. 

Sweeney was a graduate of Millbrook High School and Dutchess Community College. She worked at the Taconic Development Disabilities Services Office in Wassaic for 40 years as a therapy aide and later as a respite worker for New Horizon in Poughkeepsie. 

She was predeceased by two husbands, William Brown and Christopher M. Murphy Jr.

She married Peter E. Sweeney on April 14, 1985, who survives her. Sweeney is also survived by six children from her previous marriages: Marion Brown (John) Pickielnok; William Brown; Brenda Brown; Lisa Murphy (Duane) Badore; Kate Murphy Bowne (Blane) Traver; and Christina Murphy (Adam Chase) Cookingham. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Miranda, Blane Jr, TroiHunter, Cole, Baylee, Brayden, Adam, Aimee, Zachary, Nathan, Jacob, William Jr.; and seven great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be on April 7, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook. Services will be held April 8 at 11 a.m., with burial at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.

The family asked that donations in Sweeney’s memory be made to Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington St., Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12601 or to a local food pantry.
