Between 8 and 9 AM, Mrs. Florence Stickle was killed instantly when she was hit by a shot from a 12 gauge double barrel shotgun in the hands of her father-in-law. Mr. Stickle had been troubled by hawks stealing his chickens. Mrs. Stickle, who was washing dishes in the kitchen of the farmhouse, saw a hawk soaring over the  chicken yard and she called to her father-in- law. Mr. Stickle went into the dining room and picked up the shotgun. As he went through the door leading to the kitchen, he put a shell in the gun which discharged, striking Mrs. Stickle in the back.
