News from Bethel: Mr. John Juchem came home from having spent the 4th in this village (Pine Plains) to find three men running away from his house. The men had with them a box to which was attached a burning fuse. The parties pulled the fuse from the box and extinguished it. Mr. Juchem is convinced it was the intention of the miscreants to blow up the house. Two of them he recognized and said they had a grudge against him for ejecting them from a ball game. The affair caused considerable excitement in the neighborhood and there is a very strong feeling that lynching is the proper treatment for all who would attempt such a dastardly deed.
