Janice A. Kunen died on Feb. 2, 2024, at her home in Ghent, N.Y. She was 67.
Kunen was born on July 8, 1956 in Rhinebeck to Ralph E. Coons, Sr. and Louise (Beckley) Coons, and grew up in Pine Plains. She graduated from Stissing Mountain High School in 1974.
She worked as a painter and contractor for many years. An animal lover, she enjoyed the natural wildlife and enjoyed feeding the turkeys, deer and birds around her home. Her rescue cat was her constant companion. She was a parishioner of the People’s Bible Church in Claverack for many years.
Kunen is survived by her daughter, Tanya (Jermaine) Robinson; five grandchildren: Monique and her partner Josh, Jenya, Keith, Jermaine Jr. and Shamaine; a great-granddaughter, Kahlani; a great niece, Alyssa; a great nephew, Ayden; four sisters: Joy Ball, Joyce Caterino, Julia Coons and Joann Coons; a brother, Ralph “Bud” Coons Jr.; and many cousins.
A memorial will be held on Feb. 11, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 S. Main St., Pine Plains. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Humane Society of Columbia and Greene Counties.
