Patchin’s Mill viewed from North Main Street.

The Friends of Stissing Landmarks (FOSL) group is kicking off its spring activities with a brief community survey and a call for volunteers. The FOSL survey is seeking opinions and ideas about what activities Pine Plains residents would like the non-profit organization to undertake. The survey has three questions and a suggestion space.

In 2023, FOSL will be working on a new trail from the Thompson Pond Preserve to the fire tower atop Stissing Mountain. Their goal is to finish this challenging, zigzagging trail by the end of summer.

The group will also be working to stabilize Patchin’s Mill on North Main Street. This building was constructed in 1917 and ceased operations in 1945. The site, on Shekomeko Creek, had been used for milling since 1801. FOSL volunteers began this year’s work there in February and are seeking more helpers to save and restore the historic structure.

Volunteers are also needed to work on other aspects of FOSL’s work, or simply to follow the FOSL newsletter.
