Fay William Reed, Jr. died peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Geer Village in Canaan, Connecticut. He was 97 and had been preceded in death by Margaret, his loving wife of 70 years. He was born on September 14, 1925 in Cortland, N.Y. and had served as a United States Navy signalman in the South Pacific during the Second World War. His experience included witnessing the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. He was a member of American Legion Post #426 in Pine Plains.
After his service, Mr. Reed graduated from Ithaca College and retired from a career with IBM. He is survived by six children, sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held Friday morning, January 20 at the Parish of Our Lady of Hope, Copake. He will be laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.
