The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the Hudson Valley, including Pine Plains, Ancram, Gallatin, Milan, and Stanford, effective 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, through 9 p.m. on Friday, July 3. Expect dangerously high humidity and temperatures reaching up to 100 degrees. RealFeel (heat index) is expected to be between 110 and 114 degrees.
How to Stay Safe
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Dress right: Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
- Limit outdoor time, especially during peak heat hours, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Cool your home: Cover south- and west-facing windows with drapes, use fans, and avoid ovens or dryers.
- Check-in: Monitor vulnerable neighbors, seniors, and relatives.
- Avoid leaving pets or children in vehicles as temperatures can quickly become deadly.

Holiday notice: All locations will be closed on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, for Independence Day weekend.
There are no dedicated cooling centers in Milan and Gallatin; residents should utilize nearby locations.
