Eugene C. Bloodgood died on March 4. He was 70.

Bloodgood was born on Long Island, the son of Clarence and Frieda (Rau) Bloodgood. He moved to Stanfordville with his family when he was 13 and graduated from Stissing Mountain High School in 1972. He started working as a butcher at Meiller’s Slaughterhouse at age 16 and remained until his retirement in 2019. 

In 1976, he married Lara “Kim” Hoyt. He is survived by his four children: Heidi Bathrick, Christina Swartz Eugene Bloodgood Jr., and Michelle Campbell; six grandchildren: Alyssa, Liam, Emma, Wyatt, Lara and Kimberly; his mother, Frieda Bloodgood; and his brother, John Bloodgood. He was predeceased by his wife and by his brother, Charles Bloodgood.

A memorial service will be held on March 8, from 10 a.m. to noon at Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 7749 South Main St., Pine Plains, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. at Stanford Cemetery in Stanfordville.

The family asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Bloodgood’s memory to the American Lung Association.
