
Ernest A. Menze of Rhinebeck died on Oct. 15. He was 98.
Menze was born on June 2, 1927, in Bremen, Germany, the son of Kaufmann August and Emma Catharine (Meyer) Menze.
Menze received a doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University in 1966.
He taught history for many years at Iona University, where he became dean of the school of arts and sciences.
Menze is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine; three children: Paul Menze, Lawrence (Gretta) Menze and Christine (Anthony) Addonizio; and three grandchildren: Jake Dillon and Jillian. Two brothers, Arnold Menze and Christian Menze, died before him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Oct. 18 at 9:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church,
Rhinebeck. The family asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Iona University.
