Vote “YES” to Invest in the Future
Proposal Number One:
The 2022 Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act is on your ballot. If approved by voters, the Bond Act will help pay for many environmental programs that will benefit both our natural and human communities in Dutchess County and around the state. The Act will provide the means for the state to preserve land in the Catskills and Adirondacks and invest in protecting water, wildlife and wildlands, creating quality jobs that will support local communities and protect public health.
Jon Campbell, a writer for the Gothamist, a newsroom supported by WNYC, listed some of the benefits the Bond Act:
“Climate change mitigation: Up to $1.5 billion, including at least $400 million for green building projects, $100 million for climate adaptation and mitigation projects, $200 million for cleaning air and water pollution in disadvantaged communities, and $500 million to purchase zero-emissions school buses.
Restoration and flood-risk reduction: At least $1.1 billion, of which at least $100 million has to go to “coastal rehabilitation and shoreline restoration projects, and projects that address inland flooding.”
Open-space land conservation and recreation: Up to $650 million, of which at least $300 million is flagged for land conservation, $150 million for preserving farmland, and up to $75 million for fish hatcheries.
Water quality improvement and resiliency infrastructure: At least $650 million, including at least $200 million for wastewater infrastructure, $250 million for municipal stormwater improvements and up to $200 million for a variety of other water-related projects such as replacing lead service lines.”
The Bond Act would authorize $4.2 billion in spending over many years, potentially supporting more than 84,000 jobs enabling up to $8.7 billion in project spending. The last Environmental Bond Act was approved in 1996.

VOTING INFORMATION
Early voting is an option for you this weekend. The two nearest locations are the Town Hall in Rhinebeck, 80 E. Market St. and the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 2715 US-44, Millbrook. Both will be open for voting from 9AM until 5PM Saturday and Sunday. There is no early voting on Monday.
Voting on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8 will take place at our Town Hall from 6Am until 9PM.
