Edward Robert Burns, a lifelong resident of the Town of Milan, died on May 15 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. He was 74.
Burns was born on May 20, 1950, in Rockville Centre, N.Y., the son of Audley C. and Anne R. (Oxford) Burns.
Burns was a longtime member of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, eventually serving as a corrections captain, and was also for many years a justice of the Milan Town Justice Court.
Burns married Elizabth Ryan on Sept 22, 1973. She survives him, as do his son, Ryan Edward (Sara) Burns and four grandchildren, Joseph T. Molloy, Liam Edward Burns, Justice M. Spucches and Hunter R. Burns; and a sister, Elizabeth Lunz. A daughter, Teal E.A. Burns, predeceased him.
A celebration of Burns’s life will be held on July 12 at 9 a.m. at Milan Town Hall for breakfast, followed by a memorial service, and refreshments that afternoon at his home.
