Denise (Sis) Hamm, of Ancram, died on Feb. 16. She was 88.

Hamm was born June 29, 1936, in the Bronx to Frank and Helen (Hofler) Jones. She graduated in 1954 from St. Helena’s High School and went to work for the phone company.

She married Kenneth Hamm on Aug. 25, 1957, and moved to Ancram, where she was a member of the Ancram Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and helped with the events at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

She drove a school bus for Taconic Hills Central School District and worked for private contractors including Donald Klein and Michael Johnston. She also worked in the Taconic Hills school administration office as well as doing bookkeeping for the town of Ancram and served a brief term as tax collector for the town of Gallatin.

Hamm is survived by two children, Kenneth (Matthew) Hamm and Mary Pepoon, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Sposato of Tacoma, Wash., and Maureen Bike of Tucson, Ariz.; and a close family friend, James (Paula) Smith of Jamesburg, N.J.

A reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 8063 Route 22, Copake. A memorial mass will be held on March 20 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 429 East Allen St., Hudson.
