Editors Note
What is a community without a newspaper? It’s a question we ask ourselves often at The New Pine Plains Herald.
When The Pine Plains Register-Herald closed its doors in 2009, it ended 150 years of continuous news coverage of the region. From 2009 until our founding as a nonprofit in 2022, Pine Plains, Ancram, Gallatin, Milan and Stanford were all without a dedicated source of local news and information.
For the past two years, our small, volunteer-driven newsroom has worked to deliver a free and reliable source of local news and information to you, our readers, each and every week.
From covering town board decisions, local elections and school budgets to telling the stories of local farmers, artists and businesses, the Herald has one aim: To make us more informed, connected citizens. But we are only able to do this with your support.
As we near the end of another year, we’re asking you to help us keep going and growing. Each dollar the Herald receives goes directly toward producing the kind of journalism that makes us more than just towns on a map — it makes us a community.
Between now and Dec. 31, every donation up to $1,000 will be doubled by The Institute for Nonprofit News’ NewsMatch program, up to $15,000. The Herald is a 501(c)(3) organization, and all contributions are fully tax-deductible.
Our goal is to raise $50,000. Your gift, no matter the amount, will help us tell more stories, do deeper investigations and bring more voices into our coverage.
Please consider making a donation today to ensure that your community never goes without a dedicated newspaper again.
