The Register Herald building has been moved and now stands on its own ground directly across the street from its former location. It was a job to move it – a much bigger job than was anticipated, for it carried weight. When the building was loaded and the jack screws were taken out, the planks under the rollers sank into the ground so fast, that for a minute it looked like the whole business would be swallowed, so it was decided to postpone further operations until the ground was frozen. Last Thursday the job was tackled again. A big block and fall, to which oxen were hitched worked well, despite a crushed hemlock plank, a roller cap giving way and a busted jack screw, she moved and kept moving. A chain snapped and a long line of men pulling on a tackle rope sat down rather suddenly, some of them turning a double somersault over backwards, but she moved. A stake broke and some of the cribbing gave way, but Sile Lawrence only said the Lord’s prayer and Jim Coon sang the 92nd Psalm and she moved. It moved and kept moving, slow but sure until it stopped just where it was wanted. Nothing about the building or its contents were broken.
