Charles McDarby, the young man who murdered the old woman Caroline Proper at Gallatin on Thanksgiving Day last was lodged in jail by officer T.J. McIntyre on a commitment lodged by Justice of the Peace Frank A.. Rowe, charging him with murder. The examination was held at David Bush’s hotel in Gallatinville. The principal witnesses were Dr. Oliver, the attending physician, Mrs. Ida J. Ham, the woman who discovered the dying lady and saw McDarby run from the scene, John L. Decker, Edward Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Scism.
