A lamp in the post office fell over while Mr. Morgan was at supper and lay burning on the floor, when it was fortunately discovered by Frank Barton and E.R. Pitcher, who broke through the delivery window and threw the burning lamp out the door in time to save the floor from getting on fire. A few minutes more and a conflagration would have been started, which probably would have destroyed a large portion of the village, as there would have been no means of checking it, with the high wind then blowing. This should be a warning to get hose and fire apparatus and not a day should be lost in doing so.
