John Lown was seriously injured while with a serenading party at the house of J. Snyder in Ancram Lead Mines where some serenaders supposed a newly married couple were staying. Lown received a charge of shot from a gun fired from the house. One of the shots entered his eye. another knocked his tooth out while several others landed in his cheek. The boy who did the shooting claimed he only wanted to scare the crowd away.
