April 6, 1892

While in a state of delirium, Mrs. George W. procured a razor and attempted to cut her throat. She made a frightful wound in which physicians found it necessary to take several stitches, but the cut was up high, and the windpipe was not severed, nor the jugular vein touched. For some time past she has been exceedingly nervous and has had spells of depression, but the family have carefully watched her. She was resting quietly when Mr. W. fell asleep, waking about ½ hr later, and finding her bed empty. A hasty search found her in the kitchen, her throat cut and her clothing and the floor saturated with blood. As Mr. W. entered the room she said to him that she had not made a good job of it. It was afterward learned that she had found the razor, although it had been hidden. At first she felt sorry that she had failed to end her life, but after a time her reason seemed to return, and she regretted her deed and became anxious to recover. She is still alive but in critical condition.
