April 2, 1968
James Murphy, dairyman of Carpenter Hill, suffered one of the greatest losses by fire in this area. His 200×40 ft. barn with a 30 ft. addition was burned to the ground, along with it went 93 milkcows and 35 calves, 2 bulls, 6000 bales of hay, many tons of grain and milking equipment. Little could be done by Stanfordville firemen. Pine Plains firemen were on stand by alert at the Stanford firehouse. The red glow of the fire was seen for miles around.
