The Back Bar Beer Garden and The Cabin tavern in Pine Plains were transformed into a movie set on Wednesday, June 18. Dozens of crew members assembled lighting structures, positioned cameras, and consulted one another on an array of topics, hoping to make a few moments of movie magic. By 4 p.m. everyone was in high gear and a crew member said they expected to work until 10 that night.

With thunder showers looming, there was a no-nonsense feeling in the air, and attempts to discern any details of the production were met with polite no comments. The weather held, and the crew was able to complete its scheduled one-day shoot.

Production team member Christopher — who would not reveal his last name — said that the rest of the film was also being shot in Dutchess County. He permitted the Herald to take pictures of the set but asked that no people be in the photos.

Nikki Silver, one of the film’s producers, was effusive in her praise of Pine Plains. “Everyone here has been just wonderful and welcoming,” she said. She would not reveal any details about the movie, however, except that it would be released within a few weeks.

Two members of the Pine Plains Police Department were on site throughout the day, observing the production and gently preventing passersby from wandering onto the set. The filmmakers paid for the police coverage.
