The mission of The New Pine Plains Herald is to serve as a reliable online source of local news and information that has been carefully researched and reported. We highlight events and developments in our community, cut through misinformation, stimulate thinking and informed action, and encourage honest and civil discourse on community matters.
The closing of The Register-Herald in 2009 marked the end of 150 years of continuous newspaper coverage in Pine Plains. Founded as a nonprofit in October 2022, The New Pine Plains Herald has filled that journalistic void as a free, weekly digital newspaper serving the towns within the Pine Plains Central School District: Ancram, Gallatin, Milan, Pine Plains, and Stanford.
The Herald is a proud member of the New York Press Association, Lion Publishers, and The INN Network.
In 2024, the Herald won 4 statewide awards from the New York Press Association, including first place for coverage of the arts, second place for both coverage of healthcare and local government, and third place for its second anniversary print edition.
In 2025, the Herald won a national journalism award, the Community Champion Award from the Institute for Nonprofit News, for its coverage of ADUs that paved the road to $6 million in funding for low- and middle-income residents across 10 Dutchess County municipalities.
