
John “Jack” Harold Lasher of Elizaville died on March 22. He was 95.
Lasher was born on Sept. 3 in Germantown in 1930. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge, he moved to Elizaville. Lasher served as superintendent of the Taconic State Parkway, retiring in 1986.
He was a lifetime member of the Elizaville Volunteer Pumper Company #2 for 54 years, serving as both captain and chief, and assisted in designing a pumper brush truck for Elizaville, which Mattel Toy Co. later reproduced as a popular toy replica.
Lasher is survived by his sister, Luane; two daughters: Sharon (Tom) Odak and Leann (Marc)
Schroder; two granddaughters: Stephanie (Dan) Harris and Jamie (Eric) Colon; three great-
grandsons; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great-grand nieces
and nephews. His wife, Betty Lasher, a son, David Lasher, and a sister, Betsy, died before him.
The family requested that memorial donations in Lasher’s name be made to a local fire
department or to support local athletics.
