The Stanford Town Board on March 12 approved a resolution supporting local participation in the America 250 commemoration, authorizing use of budgeted town funds for events tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

Officials said planning is already underway for Rev 250 programming, including a fireworks display at the ball field this summer. The resolution allows the town to move forward with educational, historical and community events connected to the anniversary.

The board also approved several budget modifications, including a $4,000 transfer in the highway fund from salt to sand after what officials described as a colder-than-expected winter. Board members also approved a $529.97 budget amendment tied to a court grant for equipment.

Supervisor Julia Descoteaux said the town is preparing to restart work on zoning updates this spring, beginning with a reorganization of Chapter 164, the zoning code. Officials said the effort is meant to make the code easier to navigate without changing the law itself. A public process is expected to begin in April, with additional zoning updates, including provisions related to home-based businesses and nonconforming commercial uses, likely to follow.

Board members also heard updates from the Water Quality Committee, which said an initial grant application to fund a town wide water testing initiative was unsuccessful. Officials said the group is continuing to pursue funding and partnerships as it studies local water concerns, including possible nitrate and coliform contamination.

In other business, the board formally reappointed Don Smith as building inspector and code enforcement officer, approved use of the Town Hall front lawn for the Stanford Lions Club’s annual flea market on June 9.

The next Stanford Town Board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 9.
