Richard A. Hill died at his Pine Plains home on May 13, 2023. He was 74.
Born in Rhinebeck, he returned to his home in Pine Plains after serving in the U.S. Army, and worked as a service technician for local fuel oil suppliers.
He joined the Pine Plains Hose Company in 1971, where he was a captain of the fire company as well as a driver trainer, a pumper operator, an assistant chief and a committee member for the annual chicken barbecue. He also served as Pine Plains fire commissioner.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his family’s cabin in Schroon Lake, New York.
Hill is survived by his wife, Marguerite (Remsburger) Hill; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Christy Hill; a brother, Douglas Hill; a sister, Kathy Hill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service with firemanic and military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. on May 27, 2023, at the Pine Plains Fire Station, 7 Lake Road, Pine Plains, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Pine Plains Fire Company, or to Hudson Valley Hospice.
