Schedule Is Set for Pine Plains Community Day and Bicentennial Celebration


Pine Plains is celebrating its Community Day and Bicentennial from morning until evening on Sept. 9, in and around the center of town. Sponsored by Town of Pine Plains, The Stissing Center, Stewart’s Shops, the Dutchess Beer Distributors and Ginocchio Electric, there will be live music, free food, activities for kids, raffles, giveaways and more.

The schedule of events follows: 

FOOD

Free breakfast at the firehouse

  • 9–11 a.m. Start the day with a hearty breakfast hosted by Pine Plains Fire and Rescue.

Free lunch

  • Noon– 2 p.m. Each of these restaurants will offer one serving per person: Champêtre; El Guacamole; Lia’s (in the the town park at the traffic light); Moose on the Loose (in the town park at the traffic light); Spud Shack; Stissing House; Tower Pizza. 

COMMUNITY ZONE AT THE AMERICAN LEGION 

Stop by to learn about all the organizations supporting Pine Plains. Want to join a club? Representatives and information will be available. Plus, free ice cream and free balloons.

HONORING PINE PLAINS HISTORY
  • 10:30 a.m.-noon Clean veterans’ gravestones at Evergreen Cemetery, with VFW Post 5519. Supplies provided.

GRAHAM-BRUSH HOUSE EVENTS 

  • 11 a.m.– 3:30 p.m. Open house: Fiddlers provide the music, refreshments served. 
  • 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Thayer Durell will portray Alfred Brush (1792-1872), a tailor and former resident of the Graham-Brush House.                                                                            
  • Noon Unveiling of the new sign on the lawn that gives a history of Pine Plains, the Graham-Brush House and its residents.                                                                                                    
  • 3:30 p.m. Time capsule burial; have pictures taken at The Stissing Center to be included in the capsule. 

FUN AND GAMES  ZONE AT THE STISSING CENTER (co-sponsored by The Pine Plains Free Library) 

  • 12:30–1 p.m. Reptile story time.
  • 1–2 p.m. Hudson Valley Reptile and Rescue show—a chance to get up close and personal with these amazing creatures. 
  • 1–3 p.m. Have your picture taken for the time capsule, which will be buried at the Graham-Brush House at 3:30 p.m. 
  • 2–3 p.m. Crafts extravaganza: Make a corn husk doll.

KIDS ACTIVITIES AT THE MAIN STREET FIELD (behind the Millbrook Bank) 

  • 11 a.m.–4 p.m. The bounce zone, featuring the Royal Bounce Castle and USA Spring & Slide. 
  • 11 a.m.–4 p.m. The dunk tank: Hit a bull’s eye to soak one of our local victims. A list of participants will be available on site.
  • 11–11:45 a.m. Sack race. 
  • 11:45 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Keepie Uppie (juggle with your lower legs; don’t let the ball hit the ground). 
  • 12:30–1:15 p.m. Three-legged race. 
  • 1:15– 2 p.m. Water balloon toss (round one). 
  • 2–2:45 p.m. Egg-on-a-spoon race. 
  • 2:45–3:30 p.m. Sponge race. 
  • 3:30–4:15 p.m. Water balloon toss (round two).

  • 11–11:20 a.m. Stissing Mountain High School Chorus.                                                                                  
  • 11:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m. Half Pint.
