Helen Virginia Klare Jackson, 74, a former Pine Plains resident, died on March 28 at her home in Konawa, Oklahoma.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1949, on Long Island, to Elizabeth Jordan Klare and Harold Victor Klare. The family, which had deep roots in Pine Plains, moved to Jordan Lane in Pine Plains when she was young. Jackson graduated from Pine Plains Central School in 1967 and then attended Dutchess Community College.

She married her husband, James Jackson, who survives her, in 1984.

She worked at a wide variety of jobs during her life, including driving tractor-trailers of equipment for various music groups including Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and Joan Baez. She had her own cleaning business with many clients in Pine Plains. She also sold jewelry that she designed and created with her husband. At the time of her death, Jackson was working at a battered women’s shelter in Oklahoma.

In addition to her husband, Jackson is survived by their son, Zack; her brother, William Klare; her sister, Betsy Klare Speeter; her stepchildren, Cody, Temre, James III, and Joshua; three grandchildren, Sheadan, Roland, and Kiora; and their mother, Heather.
