The Bomber Boosters Club is getting ready for a busy spring and summer of sports.

On Tuesday, March 12, club members met at Stissing Mountain High School’s cafeteria to discuss their plans for advancing student athletics.

The Boosters raise funds to award scholarships to senior athletes, purchase sports equipment and subsidize trips for teams. They also give seniors a Bombers shirt with their name printed on it and pay for plaques awarded in competitions.

While the Boosters raise money by selling concessions at home games, that income falls short of their ambitious goals. This year, with the desire to make a bigger impact and generate more support, they are hosting the First Annual Bomber Booster Golf Classic on Wednesday, June 19, at the Red Hook Golf Club. All the proceeds will go to the high school’s athletic department.

“It’s a fun-raiser; a fun fundraiser,” said Bombers secretary Nina Osofsky.

Tickets for the event will include greens fees, a golf cart, lunch, a raffle, dinner and awards. There will be competitions for longest drive, closest to the pin and putting. The fee for individuals is $135, or four people can create a team for $500.

“The goal of this fundraiser is to engage the community, to create awareness of our program and bridge the gap of our school’s budget,” Osofsky said. “Our goal is to boost the spirit and bridge the gap between the budget and anything else the students might need.”

Various businesses have committed to make donations, but the Boosters are seeking sponsors to join the event’s main sponsor, Ronnybrook Farm Dairy. “Sponsorship provides local businesses the opportunity to support the athletic department,” Osofsky said.

While every parent of a child in Stissing Mountain junior high or high school is automatically a member of the Bomber Boosters, fewer than 10 parents show up for planning meetings and work sessions.

“The more hands we have the greater things we can do,” Osofsky said. “There are so many engaged parents, which is amazing. It’s just nice to have volunteers who help spread joy to all of the kids.”
