There has been quite a sensation in the village of Ancram. While the teacher was at dinner, two boys, about 10 years of age teased and annoyed some smaller children. On her return, the teacher punished one and was about to punish the other, when the latter’s brother, a big, strong boy of 15, sprang upon the teacher, taking her entirely unaware. The older boy jammed her against the desk and organ with such violence as to move them both out of place, and then against the wall, where he held her by the throat and choked her until a larger boy took him away and set him down. The next morning the father of the boy who assaulted the teacher brought both he and the younger to school again, and was told by the teacher that they could not be pupils any longer. The father insisted that they should remain in the school, and the trustee, who was present, sustained the father in his demands. The teacher then caused the arrest of the large boy on the charge of assault. He pled guilty, was fined $10 and left the school.
