John Scott of Gallatin was driving a spirited team when (it is supposed) one of the sideboards on the wagon bounced forward and struck one of the horses, which caused the team to run away. A little girl saw the horses running and said Mr. Scott was hanging over the whiffletrees. Shortly after the horses and wagon were seen by the roadside and a few rods away was the dead body of Mr. Scott, with his neck broken, skull fractured, both arms, one leg and ribs broken and his body in a horribly mutilated condition. He had been dragged on the ground nearly one fourth of a mile. The funeral was held at his home with the Reverend B.A. Bartholf preaching the sermon.
